The Three Keys to Success in Internet-Based Business
The Three Keys to Success in Internet-Based Business
If you are considering going into one or another sort of Internet-based business, then you will surely want to known what the keys to success in such Internet-based businesses are. The same is the case if you already have one or another Internet-based business, which you feel is not performing as well as you would like.
So what are these three keys to success in Internet-based business?
Well, the first key to success in Internet-based business is 'real value creation.' This is to say that you have to create and provide real value for your customers/audience, if you are to make a success of your Internet-based business. Many people argue that the success stories of the Internet, you know, the Googles, Facebooks and Ebays of this world were 'just lucky' guys. And it is true, to some extent, that there was an element of luck in their stories. But truth be told, the real secret to these guys' success is that they provide real value. Take Google, for instance. When you enter a search term into their search box, you expect -- at a very deep level -- to get reliable results. It is something you are almost certain of. And it is something they almost always deliver, or at least make a genuine attempt to deliver. That is what value creation is all about: providing a truly useful service, or truly useful information, to your online audience. It is the first key to success in the Internet-business world. And there is really no going round it.
The second key to success in Internet business -- at least as of today -- is 'effective promotion.' It logically follows the first key (value creation): as you now want to get the people to enjoy that value which you have created, and pay you for it one way or another. In your case, the effective promotion could take the form of search engine optimization. Or it could be social media marketing. Or yet still it could be pay per click advertising. But it has to be there. It is an important ingredient for success in this business. Unknown to many of us is that when Google was growing to be the giant it is today, there were still other search engines operating in competition to it (some arguably better than it at that point). Similarly, when Facebook was growing to be the phenomenon it is today, there were other social networks being developed too. Yet what probably made the difference - in both Google's and Facebook's cases was effective promotion: letting word out about what they had to offer, and what value it could add to users. To be sure, if you have a truly valuable service or truly useful information online, it will somehow 'promote itself' as information about its usefulness spreads 'virally'. Yet you have to get that process of information spread rolling, by taking at least the initial promotional steps.
The third key to success in Internet-based business is careful choice of monetization strategies. It logically comes third: after the creation of a valuable service or a information portal, and its effective promotion so that you now have a steady flow of traffic. It is now pay-time: getting your audience to pay you for the value you have provided them. You have to do it (the monetization) carefully. It is not for nothing that the best services online are offered basically free -- with only those who want 'premium versions' being charged. In terms of monetization strategies, you could decide to have your visitors pay by clicking on ads (when truly interested in the stuff on the ads), by enrolling on a 'pay per click' program. Or you could decide to put up stuff for sale, maybe through an affiliate marketing program, and have people purchase directly through your website. Or if you are daring enough, you could just have guys pay you directly for your service or content; a strategy that some of the top media outlets are increasingly using online. Ultimately, the choice is up to you -- and should be influenced by factors like the size (and type) of audience you have managed to garner.
Ultimately, if you can invest time and effort in the creating valuable content, then promote it well to earn decent traffic levels, and finally monetize that traffic effectively, there is really no reason why your online business should not be a success. And conversely, if your Internet-based business isn't working, then chances are that you are not getting one or a number of these keys right.
